The Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce, Florida is a research center focusing on the ecosystems found throughout the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s east coast. Biscayne worked with the scientists of the Smithsonian Institute of Washington DC to construct the Field Stations exhibit aquariums which consisted of living coral reef aquariums, intercoastal ecosystem exhibits and sea grass and inshore exhibits. The Smithsonian scientists successfully moved their prized collection of specimens from Washington DC to the new field station.
